Preparation. Make sure you have the right cleaning products to get the task done. These do not have to be off the shelf commercially expensive products. There are some organic cleaning compounds that you could use that are less expensive and are kind to the environment. But the products you use for your bathroom are down to personal preference. You have to remember that your bathroom is used by your whole family so be careful before and after the use of any product to ensure that it does not pose a significant risk to you, your children or indeed your pets. You will also need suitable cloths to ensure that you can clean the various surfaces in the bathroom. Ceramics and Glass are the principle areas to clean however you will need to pay attention to grouted areas, tiles, stainless steel and wooden materials. Make sure you have a suitable bin bag to remove any rubbish you encounter (take into account any recycling you can). Finally in terms of preparation you will need to ensure you have plenty of hot water, let's begin grab a coffee.

Bathroom Mirror. One of the most important aspects of your bathroom is your mirrors. People struggle without them and to be honest your bathroom would not be the same without them. Your bathroom mirror helps add the centre piece to your day. Now there are so many guides on how to clean mirrors, from what chemicals to use, do I use vinegar? Rolled up newspaper etc. The fact is you have a glass surface that needs to be shiny and smear free. Taking that into account clean your mirror the way you feel comfortable with. I always use a mixture of hot water and dry it down with toilet paper until the mirror is smear free and beaming my gorgeous reflection back at me. But you will have your own technique. As we are spring cleaning your bathroom you need to take into account that you will be using hot water in later tasks so you may need to come back and add some finishing touches to your bathroom mirror(s).

As well as the furniture, wall-hung sanitary ware is a great space-saving solution while giving the bathroom a contemporary feel. Also, concealed cistern units are a more eye-pleasing look than the standard close-coupled toilet. Showerbaths are a great practical way of optimizing the space, so that you have the comfort of both bathing and showering. Walk-in showers are also very popular in the modern bathroom, and if buying a shower enclosure for the modern bathroom choose one with a chrome structure over white. Chrome and stainless steel are the ultimate choice in the modern bathroom, and taps and bath mixers are available in a number of contemporary designs, rather than the traditional style faucets. Also, choose chrome towel rails over standard white radiators, as well as matching chrome accessories. Don't be afraid to decorate with bold colours when tiling or painting, getting the contrast right with the chrome and the gloss. If using curtains be subtle with the designs and colours, but preferably go for stylish roller blinds.

Custom style of cabinet. The bathroom cabinet style that you choose should match your bathroom design as well as your family. Ornate cabinets look fantastic, but they may not be the best choice for families with young children who often leave stains toothpaste and water in small folds in the sink. Instead, choose a simple door with clean lines. Finishing the cabinet should be considered as well. Laminate, stainless steel, or a sheet of wood with decorative inlay also looks great although still easy to clean. If you choose a cabinet that is more decorative, consider using varnish, which can be removed easily. You can even cut it with three layers of lacquer to increase their durability.

Option 3. Be American - Make your bathroom bigger. If you're feeling patriotic, and have the space to spare, you can extend the area of your toilet and bath. It's as American as apple pie. If you only have a shower stall, you can tear down a non-load-bearing wall and give yourself a proper bathtub. If you already have a bathtub, punch out some closet space from the next room, and give yourself a whirlpool tub. Whatever size bathroom you've got, there are always options for going bigger. (A sauna maybe...?) Option 4. A complete bathroom overhaul. If nothing else is going to do it for you, there's always the final option of a complete overhaul of your existing bathroom. Tear everything out, right down to the bear studs, and completely redo the space. Of the bathroom remodeling projects we've discussed, this is potentially the most tedious, the most expensive and the most disruptive to you and your family. However, if done properly, you can create a perfect place for you to escape your everyday, and add thousands of dollars to the value of your home.

Step three - Waterproof your bathroom. Waterproof your bathroom floor, shower recess, and around the bath. When waterproofing the floor ensure that the waterproofing comes 100mm up the walls. The shower recess will need to be waterproofed 100mm above the shower rose outlet. Also the bath should be waterproofed 100mm above the lip of the bath right around and to the floor. At the doorway install a 25 x 25mm aluminum angle glued into place with quality silicone and waterproof into the lip. Your whole bathroom should now the tanked, so the all water will only go down a drain. Bathroom waterproofing tip: waterproofing is an easy job but quality and accuracy is most important.

6. Noise. Typical dB measurements for axial bathroom fans range between 35dB(A) and 45dB(A) with the more powerful centrifugal bathroom fans between 40dB(A) and 55dB(A). Whilst centrifugal fans are louder, it should be remembered that they are housed in the loft space and so are insulated and further away, lessesning the volume somewhat. 7. Aesthetics. Remember: you are likely to see this fan every time you use the bathroom. The money you saved on it when purchasing will soon be forgotten, so don't install an ugly fan just because it's cheap. Homeowners are spending more in making their bathrooms beautiful with cool lighting and funky fixtures and fan designs have improved immensely. The old 'box with grilles' is slowly being replaced with unobtrusive and subtle 'tile' type designs which sit comfortably with any bathroom aesthetic.

As with the country and traditional bathrooms, cast iron baths are a must. Either a roll-top or slipper bath will do, and although you don't want holes or rust, the more dilapidated it looks the better. Even consider running sandpaper over the paint work and claw feet. It's always worth looking out for old fittings at antique shops and car boot sales. Counter top basins are highly recommended in this setting, and the look out for extremely unusual decorated designs. Place it on a washstand or run-down vanity unit. Add unique ornaments and antique framed mirrors.

Bath. Remove any toys or bottled bathroom products from the bath side and again start at the top and work down. Using hot water and a simple sponge clean ledges and anywhere where grime can accumulate. If you have tiles above your bath use an old tooth brushes to clean the grouting. If your grout is old and stained then use bleach with care to bring these back to life. Once the bath is clean pay attention to the taps and shower head. Again you are looking for traces of deposits that perhaps have built up over time. Use your old tooth brush to clean the join between the taps and the bath and then rinse everything down. Turn your attention to the bath toys and products that you took off the side of the bath earlier.

Fantasy. Daring to be anything more than conventional, the fantasy bathroom design lets you be truly innovative with your fantasies and tastes. With the emphasis on futuristic, this style of bathroom is the antithesis of the traditionalist. The fantasy design is ideally exclusive to only larger bathrooms, as with all futuristic interior design large open spaces are what brings the room together. Steam cabins and whirlpool baths are the ideal choice for showering and bathing. Or combine the two will a well designed bath screen and a glass shower panel. Because of their minimal effect, Walk-in showers also work well with modern tiling, chrome shower fixtures and classy shower lighting. For the sanitary ware go with wall-hung or standard close-coupled toilet and basin with pedestal with acute angles and a contemporary design. Abstract towel rails and wenge wall-hung furniture fit well in the fantasy bathroom, giving it that calm almost surreal look. The ultimate luxury in a fantasy bathroom would have to be a waterproof TV. You could even think of doubling the bathroom up as gym, complete with exercise bike and rowing machine. Ornaments should be unobtrusive, so choose things like small piles of pebbles and modern wall prints over candles and nick-nacks.
