Traditional. The Traditional bathroom can mean either traditional in terms of Edwardian or Victorian style, or in respect to a standard white bathroom with basic sanitary ware and bath. Here, we'll be looking at the style of bathroom design where it all started. The Edwardian bathroom. Over the past decade, with the popularity of TV shows like Changing Rooms, the trend for old-fashioned bathrooms has seen a real upsurge. A rare gem of an old slipper bath or rusty traditional faucet may be found at a scrap yard or in a skip, but thankfully manufacturers are keeping up with demand with skillfully crafted traditional bathroom products. Certain rooms only work in certain houses, so if you're living in a modern high rise apartment the traditional bathroom isn't going to work for you. If you have an old cottage or villa retreat this style of bathroom is one you should definitely consider.

Bathroom design. Bathroom design is the first area of your bathroom renovation you need to get right. Just replacing the existing bathroom with the same design may not be enough. The key to great bathroom design is to design it with the people that are going to use it in mind. However be sure that your bathroom design also has a general use factor as well. For example: If you were designing a bathroom for families you could still design the bathroom with easy access to the shower and bath. This would ensure that the design would also work for people with limited mobility. This means if you decide to sell your home or if you are renovating for profit your design has a wider market appeal. Great bathroom design also uses the space well, taking into account the light or window space, size of fittings, and drainage options. Draw out a plan to scale and right down the sizes of your room. Mark the existing drainage points and then and water inlet points. Write down a wish list of the bathroom fittings to need and want with their sizes. Now marry the two together and see what fits. Note: Most bathroom drainage and water inlet points can be moved but this does come at extra cost. Bathroom remodel. If you have decided to do the work yourself or part of the work it is time to hire a skip bin and pull out the old bathroom. If your home was made pre 1980 you may have fibro bathroom wall linings with asbestos in it and great care will need to be taken. You will need some full body disposable overalls, eye protection, and quality dust mask. Check with your local building authority or council regarding the regulation on bathroom asbestos wall lining removal.

Designing to YOUR dream bathroom This has more to do with design than anything else, but it is the foundation on which the rest of your decisions will depend. To help yourself through this process, go through the following mental exercise. Close your eyes. Picture your dream house: the lawn, the fence, the windows, the door. In your mind's eye, walk through the door, up the stairs, through the master bedroom and into your perfect bathroom. Now this is your dream house. Your idea of a perfect bathroom is completely up to you. For you, a great bathroom may be simple; a bathroom with gleaming, all-white surfaces and brass for all the fixtures. On the other hand, it could be something more chic, like your own personal spa. The point is, the idea for this perfect bathroom is yours, and yours alone. Everyone else involved in the project from this point forward should be focused on giving you your vision, not theirs. Whatever scope of project you've chosen to undertake, the end should be as close to your dream as it can be.

The latest trend in bathroom remodeling ideas is wall to wall bathroom rugs, which I think smarten up the look of bathrooms enormously. They won't go with an ultra-modern design, but apart from that they will make any bathroom look more luxurious and stylish. Make sure you buy Olefin bathroom wall to wall rugs, because this is the least absorbent material and it's also non-fading, mildew-resistant and machine washable. If you like ultra-modern bathroom remodeling ideas then you'll want the super new Rectangular Bathroom Wall Mirror with Inset Halogen Lights which has two columns of lights embedded in the mirror so that they're flush with the surface. It's so Star Trek! Bathroom light fixtures now range from a simple bar with 10 bare light bulbs, to really authentic copies of original Art Deco designs and Victorian bracket fixtures.

Bathroom Mirror. One of the most important aspects of your bathroom is your mirrors. People struggle without them and to be honest your bathroom would not be the same without them. Your bathroom mirror helps add the centre piece to your day. Now there are so many guides on how to clean mirrors, from what chemicals to use, do I use vinegar? Rolled up newspaper etc. The fact is you have a glass surface that needs to be shiny and smear free. Taking that into account clean your mirror the way you feel comfortable with. I always use a mixture of hot water and dry it down with toilet paper until the mirror is smear free and beaming my gorgeous reflection back at me. But you will have your own technique. As we are spring cleaning your bathroom you need to take into account that you will be using hot water in later tasks so you may need to come back and add some finishing touches to your bathroom mirror(s).

Country. The country style bathroom is perhaps the easiest type of design to create, and like the traditional bathroom only really works well within the right house. The classic country look is best associated with floral wallpaper, high beams, basin frills and a bath canopy. Following the traditional design, cast iron baths and deep ridged sanitary ware are what gives the country bathroom its nostalgic look.Check, floral or plaid curtains are preferred over roller blinds, and shutters, though rare in England, offer a great form of privacy as well as adding to the country effect. Wood plays a big part in this look, and almost all furniture works well in this setting, especially beech, maple, ash and oak vanity units and cabinets.

1. Wiring regulations. Since electric and water can make for a fatal combination, strict regulations were introduced dividing the bathroom into 4 zones: 0, 1, 2, 3. Zone 0 is in the bath. Zone 1 extends vertically 2.25m above the bath. Zone 2 extends in all directions for 0.6m from zone1 and zone 3 extends laterally for 2.4m from zone 2. It is essential that you install the correct fan in the correct zone. Bathroom fans come in two voltages; Mains voltage (240v) and SELV or Safety Extra Low Voltage (12v). Mains voltage bathroom extractor fans may only be used in Zone 3 of the bathroom. In Zones 1 and 2 SELV bathroom fans (12 volt) ONLY must be used, with the transformer being housed in Zone 3. The only exception to this rule is the Airflow QuietAir: A mains voltage bathroom extractor fan that has been specifically designed with an IP45 rating to be used in all 3 zones. Inline fans are another special type of 240v bathroom extractor fan which are housed in the loft space above the bathroom in the middle of two lengths of ducting. Since the motor, impellars and all electrical parts are out of the zonal area, with only the duct and grille in the bathroom ceiling, they too are suitable for use in zone 1 or 2 above the bath or shower.

Plan your bathroom storage furniture carefully. For example, if your bathroom is small you can make the most of the storage area above the floor by installing high bathroom storage units which only take up a small amount of floor space. All types of bathroom wall cabinets are great for small bathrooms because they don't take up any floor space at all and if you're going to have a bathroom medicine cabinet, make sure it's lockable for safety. Mirrors can be used to give an illusion of space in your bathroom and if you have a couple of bathroom wall mirrors fixed in the right places you'll be amazed at the effect they'll have. Once you've made the difficult decisions relating to your bathroom remodeling ideas and have got your new bathroom storage cabinets in place, you can start looking for curtains which will complement them. Neutral plain colors will allow special pieces like an antique vanity unit to shine without having to fight for attention against bright flowery curtains. But if your bathroom storage units are a white contemporary style, then it's a good idea to jazz things up with fancy bathroom curtains.

Make sure it's durable! When you are spending money on a new piece of furniture, you want to make sure that this investment will last, so it is important to invest in durable pieces of furniture that will see you through plenty of years to come. Check that the unit cannot be subject to any water damage or, if it has a mirrored front, that it has a de-mister to avoid any unsightly marks. Keep versatility in mind. While your bathroom may look all fresh and new once you have installed your new bathroom cabinet it is important to remember that due to fleeting interior design trends, you may want to redecorate the bathroom again in the future. With this in mind, make sure that the unit you choose is versatile so it can effortlessly fit in with a redecorated bathroom setting to remove the need of having to purchase a new cabinet in the future.

Either tiles or wooden floors can be used. Tiles should be a rustic colour, and can be used to create elaborate mosaics. Wooden floors should be varnished to match the furniture. Decorating may see a stenciled motif used as a border, and the technique of rubbing paint on the walls with a sponge gives the room that worn natural look. Toilets with high level cisterns and pull chains are very rare these days, but a must have for the country bathroom, as are traditional taps for the bath and basin. Just about any kind of free-standing bath will suit the country bathroom. If wishing to have a shower a tiled walk-in shower is the advisable option with a curtain to conceal the area. For the final touch add wicker baskets filled with pot pouri, wire basket shelves and stylish wall lamps.
